APD searching for suspect in first bank robbery of 2020

Bank robbery suspect (Austin Police)

The Austin Police Department's Robbery Unit is working with the FBI Central Texas Violent Crimes Task Force on a robbery that occured at a Chase Bank on 5700 West Slaughter Lane in South Austin on Saturday, January 4.

Police received a call from the bank around 1:45 p.m., about a man who brandished a handgun and demanded money from a teller.

The suspect was given an undisclosed amount of money before he exited the bank and rode off on a pedal bicycle. Police believe he headed West on Slaughter Lane away from the bank.

Suspect Description 

  • Male
  • Average build 
  • 5'09" -  5' 11"
  • Last seen wearing motor cross full-face helmet, goggles, dark sweatshirt, black/gray gloves and dark pants.

The bank robbery was the first of 2020. There were no injuries during the incident
