Austin City Council identifies Spencer Cronk as finalist for city manager
Austin City Council is moving forward with a finalist for a city manager.
Tuesday afternoon, council announced they are going to begin negotiating a contract with Spencer Cronk, the Minneapolis city coordinator.
Council had narrowed it down to two finalists. Cronk and Howard Lazarus, city administrator for Ann Arbor, Michigan. Lazarus previously worked for the City of Austin as director of public works.
It has been more than a year since Austin’s previous city manager Marc Ott left his position. Elaine Hart has filled in since then.
One of the first challenges for the next city manager will be to hire a new Austin police chief. Brian Manley has been in that interim role since Chief Acevedo left for Houston last year.
