Austinites honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Thousands of Austinites are celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on the day that bears his name. The 21st annual community march and rally started at the MLK statue on the UT campus.

The event began at 9 a.m. Among those attending and honoring Dr. King were Mayor Steve Adler, Fire Chief Rhoda Mae Kerr and Police Chief Art Acevedo.

Today's event follows Saturday's "Millions March Texas" which also started on the UT campus. It was a peaceful rally aimed at raising awareness about today's social issues.

Today's march and rally went from the MLK statue to Huston-Tillotson University for a festival, which will have live music from local musicians and a variety of vendors. That runs until 3:00 p.m. this afternoon.
