Cap Metro expanding to keep up with population boom
Capital Metro is expanding to keep up with Austin's population boom. The transportation agency has a lot of plans in the works including adding several new stations across the area and improving existing ones.
For those driving in Austin, traffic is a given thanks to new people moving here every single day. Cap Metro says it recognizes the growth and wants to "provide as many options as possible so people don't have to drive themselves."
The Lakeline station, a block from Lakeline Bouleavard, is where one of the many expansion projects is taking place.
The station is packed with cars and jammed with people. Each day dozens of buses and several commuter rails run through the station. It's a heavily used line thanks to growth in Round Rock, Georgetown and other areas as well.
There are currently 300 parking spaces but on most days that's not nearly enough. People park anywhere they can and make it difficult to maneuver. Officials are adding an extra 325 spaces to help solve the problem.
Riders definitely approve of the doubling of the capacity.
The Lakeline expansion is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
