CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Good Samaritans help family out of crashed car

The Manor Police Department says 41-year-old Desire Lukusa was driving a red Honda mini-van on 290 Saturday night.

According to his arrest paperwork Travis County dispatch reported Lukusa driving westbound in the eastbound lanes.

With his wife and 3 kids in tow, he drove into the grassy median and into the creek below.

"When officers arrived they noticed numerous motorists had stopped.  Approximately 20.  And a car was located in a creek with the water about halfway up a car," said Sgt. Craig Struble with Manor Police.

Manor Police say those good Samaritans had broken out a passenger-side window and got the family out of that water-logged mini-van.

When Manor Police arrived the driver and his family were on dry ground but soaking wet.

"We want to say 'thank you' to the motorists who did stop and help them out," Struble said. "To a family, especially with children, that's a scary situation and them stopping and giving a quick response than police could have given really helped out the family."

According to the arrest paperwork the officer walked the family to the top of the hill...he noticed Lukusa stumbling on the way.  The officer reported Lukusa smelling of alcohol and his eyes were bloodshot.

"He was determined to be intoxicated and he was arrested for DWI with a child passenger which is a felony and then 3 counts of child endangerment," Struble said.
