Child killed in crash wasn't wearing seat belt, according to police

Police have identified the child killed in a traffic crash in Northeast Austin Saturday night. 

It happened around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of the eastbound Hwy 290 and northbound SH 130 service road. 

According to APD, a 2001 Dodge truck ran a red light and struck a 2013 Nissan Altima on its left side. 

Police said 10-year-old Luis Angel Tinoco was in the backseat of the Nissan and was not wearing a seatbelt. He died at the scene.

APD is investigating this case. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the APD

Police said this is Austin's 52nd fatal traffic crash of 2018, resulting in 53 fatalities this year.

At this time in 2017, there were 47 fatal traffic crashes and 49 traffic fatalities.
