Community comes together to help Flower Mound mom with breast cancer
FLOWER MOUND, Texas - A breast cancer patient from Flower Mound is receiving help from all over the community after a friend shared her story with a local radio station.
FOX 4 was there earlier this month when 106.1 KISS FM surprised single mother Amanda Thomas and her 15-year-old son, Gage.
They received gift cards and he got a back-to-school shopping spree and tablet for school.
“My top priority concerns were to get Gage taken care of with his school clothes because I was planning to go back to work on my own will. And, I had to give up running from chemo and had to give in. So the income wasn’t there,” Amanda said.
She was working in the fitness industry when she was diagnosed with cancer in April and now has no source of income.
She has a rare and aggressive form of Stage 3 breast cancer that less than 1 percent of patients will be diagnosed with.
The nonprofit organization Suite Hope has also stepped in to help her deal with some of the side effects of chemotherapy like hair loss.
Amanda allowed FOX 4’s Jenny Anchondo to follow her along in hopes that doing so will inspire other patients.
