Countdown to reopening LA County

LOS ANGELES - “What was announced today are those first baby steps,” said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. He announced all businesses that can begin to reopen this Friday including florists, toy stores, music stores, book stores, clothing, and sporting goods stores.

In the city of Los Angeles they may offer curbside pickup.

Just in time for Mother’s Day, the downtown Flower Market is expecting a surge in orders for Sunday.

Also on the list, car dealerships, which can start allowing customers inside showrooms with proper safety measures.

At Galpin Ford in North Hills, they’ve instituted strict cleaning and safety protocols.

“We have everything cleaned and sanitized with plastic over everything, the keys come in a plastic bag and everything is done digitally now which is really nice. In a couple of cases if we need a wet signature, we can mail it and get it back or have them sign at a distance so this is the new normal our new future for a while,” said Galpin President Beau Boeckmann.

The dealership made a promotional video outlining some of the sanitizing measures.

“We will be disinfecting vehicles with our with our electrostatic sanitizing mist.”

Employees will now wear masks. There are plexiglass partitions and lots of hand sanitizer as well as free masks for customers.

“We’re gonna now be able to serve our customers so we’re very happy about that,” said Boeckmann.

The citywide openings are a bit of a turnaround for the mayor who on Tuesday said Los Angeles wasn’t quite ready for phase two. But, he says he decided Wednesday morning to follow county health recommendations.

“I was confident because we have been gearing up for this and that the city of Los Angeles could move together with the county," Garcetti said. 

Also included in the order, Golf courses and trails will be allowed to reopen on Saturday, provided visitors wear face masks.
