DC cemetery honors LGBT World War II veteran, gay rights leader

A World War II veteran and gay rights leader was honored with a U.S. Veterans Administration memorial headstone Wednesday.

The event was held at D.C.'s Congressional Cemetery at the memorial site of Frank Kameny on Veterans Day

Kameny’s headstone bears the slogan, 'Gay is Good.' The ceremony included 40 members from the gay men's chorus who sung the national anthem. A number of retired and active Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transgender military also read some of Frank's memorial words.

Paul Williams, a spokesman with the Historic Congressional Cemetery, said he believes Congressional is the only cemetery in the world with a LGBT section.
