Demonstrators protest low wages in Austin

Workers and their supporters are protesting low wages across the United States and in places around Austin. They're demanding a minimum wage of $15 an hour.

Demonstrators including home health care workers, child care workers and fast food employees were out protesting several fast food restaurants this morning near Riverside including McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Popeyes and Taco Bell.

The protests in Austin were among hundreds taking place across the U.S. and the world in the largest day of strikes and protests for higher wages and economic dignity. 

Dozens of workers at the McDonald's on Riverside near Lamar joined in to demand the $15 an hour minimum wage and the right to unionize.

Similar protests are scheduled later in Austin.
