Eight banks robbed in Austin so far this year

It's the beginning of February and today marks the seventh bank robbery in Austin in 2018. Prosperity Bank on Northland Drive is the latest bank to be hit.

Six days before, the same bank in North Austin was robbed.

Officer Destiny Winston with the Austin Police Department spoke at a press conference shortly after the robbery Wednesday morning. "That's why these types of crime are very concerning. We do take them very seriously and we're working very hard to solve this case."

A man walked in Prosperity Bank on Northland Drive with a weapon.

He's described as a white man about 6 feet tall, between 45-55 years old.

Demanding money, he walked away with an undisclosed amount of cash. "Whenever we put out a suspect description we have officers in the area that will actively look in hopes of apprehending the subject as soon as possible," Officer Winston adds.

The suspect was last seen on foot, headed south on Balcones.

He was wearing a dark colored hoodie with a hat underneath.

He also had on sunglasses and pants.

As for the robbery on February 1st at this same bank, a white man in his 40's also had a weapon. He's described as 6 feet tall last seen wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses.

Chase Bank was hit on Northland Drive, right next door on January 25th.

All seven of the robberies in Austin happened in broad daylight, anywhere between nine in the morning and four in the afternoon. Each case remains unsolved.
