EMS medic involved in East Austin crash

An EMS medic is involved in a crash involving another vehicle at the intersection of East 7th Street and Shady Lane. It happened around 10 a.m.

Exact details of the crash aren't yet known but officials say the EMS medic, who works with the Community Health Paramedic Program, was on his way to the Austin Transition Center when the crash happened.

Two patients were taken to UMC Brackenridge. One has potentially serious injuries.

Paramedics with the Community Health Paramedic Program help navigate people with mental health problems through the health system. The program helps the patients with their health problems so they don't have to call 9-1-1 and take an ambulance out of service for more serious calls.
