Most of Central Texas is under a Flash Flood Watch until 7 p.m. Counties under the watch include: Caldwell, Bastrop, Williamson, Hays, Fayette, Gillespie, Burnet, Llano, Lee, Travis and Blanco.
There are also several low water crossings closed as of 8 a.m. 69 crossings are closed according to ATXfloods. You can get current information by going to their website here.
Officials urge drivers that even though you may feel it's inconvenient, if you see orange barricades up you need to find another way. Turn around, don't drown. Not only is it illegal but it is extremely dangerous to go around them.
Other safety tips for the road as you head out:
- Slow down
- Pay attention to the road
- Limit distractions
- Put down your phone
- Turn on your headlights
- Give more space between vehicles
- Don't use cruise control
- If you hydroplane don't panic, don't brake. East off gas and steer into skid.
- If you can't see, pull over and wait.
