Formal Charges announced in Samantha Dean Case
Prosecutors in Bastrop formally announced Thursday charges in connection to the murder of a Kyle Police crisis counselor earlier this year.
Within the next three months this case will be given to a Bastrop County grand jury to review. But a long awaited and major step was made in this murder investigation.
The announcement Thursday afternoon made by Bastrop County authorities came as no surprise.
"We are here today to announce to confirm the arrest of two persons in regards to the murder investigation of Samantha Dean and her unborn child Madeline,” said Sheriff Terry Pickering.
The main suspect -VonTrey Clark was lead into the Bastrop County Jail early Thursday morning in shackles and handcuffs. He was booked for Cap murder and placed in a single cell. Kevin Watson also was charged with Capitol Murder and is being held in Houston on an unrelated charge.
“Capital murder is an offense in the state of Texas that can carry the death penalty the decision to seek the death penalty rest solely with me my office and wild this is still ongoing that's a very complicated factual but legal question it will have to be made upcoming months and it will be made before trial,” Bastrop DA Bryan Goertz.
The arrest warrant - now unsealed - accused Clark of orchestrating a conspiracy with Watson to kill his Samantha Dean. She was 7 months pregnant at the time. According to the court documents Investigators say Dean was killed in February because she would not abort her child- who she had a named Madeline. Clark allegedly feared the baby would jeopardize his relationship with another woman. The documents do not say who pulled the trigger.
Kayla Fisk allegedly tried to help cover up the crime by hiding a bloody sweat shirt for Watson. Aaron Lamont Williams is accused of trying to intimidate a key witness in the case.
Federal agents picked up Clark earlier this week in Indonesia.
His attorney claims Clark went to Bali for health reasons and was not trying to escape prosecution.
“I believe everyone connected with this case is relieved to be at this point ,” said D.A. Goertz.
The D.A. went on to say the investigation continues and did not rule out the possibility of more arrests regarding how Clark was able to slip away to Indonesia last month.
Clark's attorney restated his client is innocent and added; “Let's see what happens when investigators finally have to face cross-examination-procedural missteps are exposed, and evidence favorable to Officer Clark is brought to light.”
Samantha Deans mother was at the news conference but declined to speak.
