FOX 7 Discussion: Dealing with PTSD after mass shooting

AUSTIN, Texas - The shooting in Las Vegas instantly brings to mind Aug.1, 1966, when a lone gunman climbed to the top of the University of Texas tower and killed 15 and wounded 32 others including an unborn child in just an hour and a half.

Charles Whitman used a high powered rifle and was able to shoot people blocks away, much like the shooter in Las Vegas.

For many years, the UT shooting was the deadliest in America.

Police were outgunned and, it took a few officers climbing to the top of the tower to finally shoot and kill Whitman.
One of those officers had a handgun and missed Whitman.  

Another officer shot and hit Whitman with a shotgun.

The UT shooting led police departments to adapt and, helped pave the way: for modern swat teams.
