FOX 7 Makes Miracles: Anti-NMDA Encephalitis
Sam Arghami's 16 year old son Anthony was a healthy, active teenager in August. By mid-September he was hospitalized with an undiagnosed illness. He was having seizures, hallucinating, suffered from insomnia and lost about 40 pounds.
After much testing and research, Anthony's doctors diagnosed him with anti-nmda encephalitis. The rare illness was just recently named in 2007. Not too many doctors know about it, but Sam Arghami wants to educate doctors and parents about the signs and symptoms of the disease.
Anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis is a disease occurring when antibodies produced by the body’s own immune system attack NMDA receptors in the brain.
