Judge dismisses lawsuit by University of Texas regent Hall
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- A state judge in Travis County has dismissed a lawsuit by a University of Texas System regent who wants access to confidential student records.
Regent Wallace Hall sued the system for the records after an investigation into student admissions at the flagship Austin campus.
Hall wanted the records used by the outside consultant who conducted the investigation. It found the school accepted some students who might not have been qualified but were well connected with state and university officials.
Judge Scott Jenkins in Austin issued his one-page dismissal Tuesday.
Chancellor William McRaven has insisted Hall should not get student records that are protected by state and federal law, and says he expects Hall to appeal.
Hall did not immediately issue a statement.
