It happened Friday evening in north West Austin. A teddy bear and flowers can be seen just off Sonnet avenue. This is the area police say 18-year-old Carson Smith was stabbed.

“We hope that in the days, and weeks coming that we will be able to put out that information as to why this happened,” Sgt. Eric De Los Santos with the APD homicide unit.

The two suspects a 15-year-old and a 13-year-old, “It is very rare this age is surprising shocking,” said De Los Santos.

Officials say Smith was taken to Dell Seton where he died the following day.

“Some of the witnesses attempted life saving measures that probably has a lot to do with why EMS was able to make a transport because those witnesses jumped in to help,” said De Los Santos.

AISD also helped with the investigation.

“Assisted us in identifying 2 suspects involved in the stabbing,” said De Los Santos.

The two teens were arrested over the weekend and are now at the Gardner-Betts juvenile justice center.

“Both had been arrested for murder,” said De Los Santos.

With how young the suspects are, APD is not able to release many details, like the motive, at this time.

“The public wants to know and they have a genuine concern and we want to get that information out there and as soon as we can we will,” said De Los Santos.

Smith attended Anderson High School. The school put out a letter to the community about how Smith's family chose organ donation so that he may live on by helping others.

APD said it's still not known if the two teens will be charged as adults, they say this option up to the district attorney's office.
