Man accused of helping former APD officer commit murder pleads not guilty
A man who investigators say helped a former APD officer murder his pregnant girlfriend appeared in Bastrop County Court this morning. Kevin Watson entered a not guilty plea.
Investigators say Watson and former APD officer VonTrey Clark were close friends. Now they are both in jail together.
Cameras were not allowed inside the courtroom today as Watson made his first appearance before the judge.
Investigators say Watson told another person involved in the case that he and another man killed Samantha Dean and her unborn baby Madeline for Clark.
Watson allegedly said Clark was looking to pay someone $5,000 for the murder because he did not want the baby and Dean would not have an abortion.
Dean's body was found behind a shopping center west of Bastrop in February 2015. She had been shot three times in the head. She was a victim service specialist for the City of Kyle.
Watson entered a plea of not guilty. His attorney, Tyrone Moncriffe, says, "We are fighting. We are going to be fighting the case. We are doing an intensive investigation at this point. And we expect to fight the case all the way through the trial."
Watson is set to make another appearance on May 25. Clark is also due back in court in May.
