Man in custody after SWAT situation in South Austin

One man is in custody after a SWAT situation in South Austin.

Austin police say the incident began when two vehicles crashed at South Congress and Ben White Boulevard around 2:20 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

A man in a truck drove away from the scene and police followed him to South Congress and Sheraton Avenue where he pulled over.

APD unsuccessfully attempted to get the man out of the car and they say he began making threats and moving his body around possibly reaching for a weapon so they called in SWAT.

Police officials say officers did recover a weapon inside of the vehicle and it is believed that the driver had felony warrants but they are still working to confirm that.

Roads were closed for about three hours and have since reopened
