Man in his 20's found dead with a gunshot wound in North Austin

The scene outside a home in North Austin was quiet and solemn as APD homicide detectives investigate what led to the death of a man shot dead Sunday afternoon.

First responders received a 911 call about a shooting in the 12500 block of Rampart Street. Police said they found a man in his 20’s dead with a gunshot wound.

A woman and two children were inside at the time of the shooting.

Cecil Hayes has lived in the neighborhood for more than 30 years and describes it as quiet. "It's always been a safe neighborhood you have a little burglaries people stealing bikes and breaking into neighborhoods but you see that everywhere," Hayes said. "My condolences go out to. Everyone mostly knows everyone in this neighborhood so I feel pretty bad about it because he had kids. Now we have a man who's gone and kids that are fatherless."

The victim's friends and family stood behind the yellow crime scene tape hoping to get answers. Emmanuel Johnson was hanging out with the victim in his home last night. Unable to wrap his mind around losing a close friend.

"He was a good friend he's been there for me ever since we met. It's just been day one. We've been together every single day. He's like a brother to me," Johnson said. "You never know what your last day is that’s what I seen last night. I was just talking to him last night."

No suspects were immediately arrested.
