Man wanted for stabbing three with machete

Travis County sheriff's deputies are looking for a man who they say attacked three people with a machete. One of the victims was found with her arms and legs tied in the home where it happened.

The front yard of a trailer at the Dessau Fountain Estates is covered with blood spatter.

It’s evidence of a brutal attack that sent three to the hospital.

"It's unbelievable that something like that could happen right next door,” said a neighbor.

Deputies say Thursday night, a woman and man came home and were instantly confronted by 23-year-old Carlos Moreno-Mejia. The man says Moreno-Mejia struck him in the face and then stabbed his girlfriend in the back with a machete. They hid outside and called 9-1-1.

After seeing Moreno-Mejia leave, the two re-entered the home to find the woman's cousin naked, tied up and bloody with a large cut from her hip to her knee.

The three of them were all taken to a hospital.

Rhedd Coney lives across the street, “Me and my son got in late last night and soon as I got in the house, got my son in bed that's when I started hearing this commotion. We could've been in the middle of that. That's what scared me."

The woman who was found bound in the bedroom was the initial target. She told deputies that Moreno-Mejia was her ex-boyfriend. She said she'd been receiving threatening texts and phone calls from him. She says he also followed her.

We spoke with a neighbor who said she saw the two together.

"I'm really surprised at the guy, you never know. He seemed like a nice guy,” she said.

An hour-and-a-half after the crime, Moreno-Mejia's truck was found abandoned in San Antonio.

As law enforcement continues to search for him, neighbors are keeping his victims in their thoughts.

"I'm praying for you. I'm praying for your guys. You be strong and get better,” said Coney.

The sheriff's office says the US Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force is actively pursuing Moreno-Mejia. If you know his whereabouts, you are urged to call 512-854-1444.
