More rain on the way for Central Texas

AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - Heavy rain this evening prompted the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio to issue its first December Flash Flood Warning since 2002 and more rain is on the way overnight. 

Additional rainfall Friday night will be the result on an incoming low-pressure system from the Desert Southwest. By December standards, the current air mass in place over Texas is very moist, a factor which could result in intense showers overnight. 

Much of the overnight rain will be falling on saturated ground, with the runoff resulting in additional flash flooding. Parts of Central Texas have seen between 1.5” and 4” of rain since Thursday. 

A Flash Flood Watch remains in place for Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano, Travis, and Williamson Counties through noon Saturday.

Use caution while traveling overnight as flooded roadways becomes much harder to see.

As always, turn around, don’t drown.

By Saturday afternoon, the brunt of the precipitation will move east with the center of the low-pressure storm system. A few patchy showers will be possible during the day Saturday before we begin to dry out on Sunday.
