Person swept away in swift water from Shoal Creek to Lady Bird Lake
AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - A body was recovered following a water rescue in downtown Austin.
According to ATCEMS, the Austin Fire Department was dispatched to the 800 block of West 9th Street for a water rescue in the afternoon of Wednesday, May 8. Witnesses had reported seeing a person being swept away in the moving water of Shoal Creek.
Officers with the Austin Police Department believe they may have spotted the person under the South First Street Bridge. This would mean the person was swept from Shoal Creek into Lady Bird Lake. ATCEMS confirmed on Twitter that a body that appears to be motionless had been spotted in Lady Bird Lake.
STAR Flight also assisted with ATCEMS and APD in the water rescue.
A rescue team recovered the body and the man in his 50s was pronounced dead on scene.
