Police investigating multiple East Austin food truck burglaries

The Austin Police Department is investigating multiple food truck burglaries in the east Austin area Saturday (4/28) night.

Vendors at the Eastside Food Truck Park on East Cesar Chavez Street said they had broken locks, missing equipment and petty cash stolen.

Gloria Aviles the co-owner of Casita Boriqua said the situation was upsetting not because of the monetary loss but because of what her truck means to her.

"It's like someone just intruded into my house basically," said Aviles. "They may not have taken a lot but they took a piece of us when they broke into our food truck."

Austin Police officers took fingerprints and documentation of any damage left behind by the thieves.

A vendor on 7th Street and Pedernales Street said several trucks were broken into Saturday night as well. The vendor said there are cameras and an alarm system in that park. They are also working with the police department to identify the suspect or suspects involved. APD has not confirmed yet whether the two are related.

The Eastside Food Park owner said they haven’t had a break-in in seven years. The vendors in the area said they will tighten security, remove any valuables and be on high alert.
