Austin police are looking for a suspect who crashed a vehicle into a South Austin home. It happened at around 3 a.m.

Police say it all started on South Congress when an officer noticed a vehicle driving erratically. The officer ran the license plate and discovered that the SUV was reported as stolen.

The officer tried to stop the suspect but the driver sped off and led police on a chase that ended at Speer Lane near Libyan Drive. The chase lasted about five minutes.

The suspect jumped out just seconds before the SUV crashed into a home and the suspect took off on foot.

No one inside the home was seriously hurt but Victoria Roman, who was sleeping inside with her family, says one of her family members did suffer some scratches on his side.

Roman says it sounded like an earthquake when the vehicle hit her home. Outside there's damage to the base of the home and a lot of crushed concrete and broken wood.

Inside the home from the floor to the ceiling the wall is broken into pieces. Drywall and concrete rocks are scattered across the room and there's broken glass as well.

Ramon says after looking at all the damage left behind her family member is lucky he wasn't more seriously injured.

Police say nearby homes have surveillance cameras that caught everything and they'll use the video to help catch the guy.
