Police: Man shot by officers ignored commands to drop weapon
ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — Police in Virginia say an 18-year-old man ignored their commands to drop a pistol before he was fatally shot by officers.
Police in Roanoke County said the weapon they recovered from Kionte DeShaun Spencer after the deadly encounter Friday night was a BB gun.
Roanoke County Police Chief Howard Hall told The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/1plmGM9 ) the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave. He declined to say how many officers were involved.
Spencer was black. A spokeswoman for Roanoke County, Amy Whittaker, declined a request by The Associated Press to identify the officers by race.
The shooting followed a 911 call reporting an armed man with a bandanna over his face seen walking in a drug store parking lot.
