President Trump expected to stop in Austin as part of TX visit
President Donald Trump is expected to make a stop in Austin as part of a trip to Texas to survey the damage Harvey has left behind. Houston and many other parts of the state, including some in our area, are still battling floodwaters.
This will be Trump's first visit to the Texas capital since being elected. He plans on heading to Corpus Christi first and then coming to Austin later in the day. He and First Lady Melania Trump will get a first hand look at rescue and recovery efforts in the area.
HOUSTON RESCUE EFFORTS CONTINUE
President Trump spoke about the disaster during a joint press conference with Finland's president yesterday. He said the Lone Star State will get what it needs very quickly.
The amount of money needed to recover and rebuild is not known yet but it's expected to be billions of dollars due to the size of the storm and the extended length of the disaster.
The head of FEMA admitted that federal and state officials alone can't fully address the scope of the emergency response.
HOW YOU CAN HELP HARVEY VICTIMS
The Trumps are expected to arrive in Corpus Christi at around 11 a.m. where they'll be briefed on relief efforts and survey damage before then heading to Austin. Houston is not on itinerary at this time.
