The City of Round Rock is displaying its patriotism in a big way. Monday morning, they kicked off the fourth of July with a parade and the Frontier Days celebration is set to go well into the night.

Monday morning thousands of people decked out in red, white and blue lined Main Street in Round Rock--including the FOX 7 news team.

For the Rizleys, watching the Fourth of July parade is an annual family affair.

“Just to show the kids about America, freedom, happy birthday America and show their respect,” said Shelley Rizley.

"Freedom, peace and love for all the men [who have] fought in the war,” said Arnold Forbus.

The appreciation they feel is something they want to pass along to their kids.

Lucinda Francis and her husband brought their grandkids.

"It's America. It's my home. It's what we're all proud of and we should be proud of,” said Francis. "We have to start them early so they will be proud of it too

As the parade began the crowd took to their feet when soldiers marched by. Loud applause was accompanied by shouts of “thank you.”

As the city showed its gratitude to those who have served and are serving, officials also recognized a boy taking on a battle of another kind.

Seven-year-old Brock Fleming served as grand marshal. He has brain cancer. But for the day he was a super hero on a batman-themed float.

"We're just blessed and thankful. It's amazing to see everyone coming out in support of Brock. He's leading a courageous fight and we're really proud of him,” said Melissa Fleming.

Brock was also given a uniform and recognized as an official member of the Army.

"He is not a member of the Army. I told him he cannot deploy off. He has to stay with me,” said Fleming.
