Round Rock family of motorcycle crash victim seeks answers

The family of a man killed in a motorcycle crash in Round Rock is in mourning.

Round Rock police are still investigating what caused the crash and so far no citations have been made.

Rachel Nyfield said she was outside watching her sons run around the yard, waiting on her fiancé CJ Clifton to return home. She said Clifton took his truck to work but exchanged it for his motorcycle during lunch because of the beautiful weather. Time passed and Nyfield was afraid Clifton was going to be late to their engagement photoshoot.

She received a call from a coworker who said they passed an accident at the intersection of East Palm Valley Blvd and Georgetown Street and recognized Clifton's bike. Nyfield said she rushed to the scene.

"They said it was instant," Nyfield said. "There was somebody that did stop and try to perform CPR but they said it was too late, unfortunately, he was gone."

Clifton collided with a pick-up. The driver was unharmed but Clifton died on the scene. Nyfield said investigators told her the driver may have run a red light or Clifton may have rushed a yellow light. Round Rock police are actively investigating.

"I'd like to know what happened, I'd like to know who is at fault, it doesn't necessarily mean it's going to change anything. I'd like to know for my own peace of mind,” Nyfield said. “It’s taxing it’s really taxing; I’m just trying to hang on for the kids.”

Regardless of who's at fault, Nyfield has set her focus on memorializing Clifton. The two were set to marry in September. Clifton leaves behind a loving family and three young sons.

"He was an amazing father, he would always make time for the kids,” said Nyfield. "It's definitely hitting Brayden the hardest, he's the 8-year-old and he'll be nine actually next month. Kane doesn't really kind of understand, he knows but he doesn't and Charlie is just now starting to really miss Dada, he's 11 months and it's the longest that CJ has ever been gone."

Nyfield said Clifton didn’t have any life insurance. His family is working on funeral arrangements and has set up a fund to help cover expenses and take care of the boys.
