Runners converge for 29th annual Ascension Seton Austin Marathon

The 29th Annual Ascension Seton Austin Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5k will bring over 17,000 runners from 25 countries and all 50 states of America, says the official race website. 

Runners will be directed through Austin, traveling past iconic landmarks such as the UT Tower, I love You Mural and Lady Bird Lake. The runners will also see the chance to see some of Austin's unique neighborhoods like South Congress and Hyde Park. Runners will finish the race in front of the Texas Capital to cheering crowds and a live broadcast of them crossing the finish line.

The Austin Marathon will begin at 7 a.m. on February 16, as the first finishers of the race are expected to arrive at the finish line around 9:20 a.m. 

"The Austin Marathon has grown to be the 25th largest marathon in the USA since its start in 1992. This iconic race attracts top endurance athletes from around the globe. The team and charity program attracts many tech companies and industry leaders that call Austin home," says the official website. 

The first Austin Marathon took place in 1992 with a total number of entrants numbered at 605 runners.
