Some CapMetro buses to use MoPac northbound express lane

The commute in and out of downtown Austin can already be a nightmare and it could get even worse starting today now that CapMetro will start using MoPac for some express buses. A new bus route will make 22 trips by using the new northbound express lane.

Route 980 North MoPac begins weekday service with 11 morning and 11 evening trips.

CapMetro says riders will be able to get from Round Rock to downtown twice in the morning and twice after work.

It's great news to some but others are not that excited. Some drivers say that getting on to the MoPac express lane is already an issue and that this new bus route will only make traffic worse.

Getting the buses out of downtown and onto the express lane requires using Cesar Chavez which has recently started backing up and has been causing more gridlock in the area.

City traffic manager say they'll try adjusting signal lights to help improve flow.

Come January, CapMetro will add even more bus routes with three of those routes using the express lanes on MoPac.
