The American Red Cross is asking you to Sound the Alarm!

The humanitarian organization is seeking volunteers to participate in a home fire safety and smoke alarm installation event on Saturday, April 27 here in Austin, Texas.

Volunteers will work alongside fire departments and other local groups, canvassing at-risk neighborhoods to install free smoke alarms, replace batteries in existing alarms, educate families about fire prevention and safety, and fundraise for this lifesaving mission. Volunteers for the Sound the Alarm event are being asking to meet at the American Red Cross location at 2218 Pershing Drive.

Also, on Friday, April 26, the community is invited to join the Red Cross at a family friendly Sound the Alarm “PREP” Rally and preparedness event to learn how you can make your home safe for yourself and your loved ones. The community "PREP" Rally will be held at the Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex at 1156 Hargrave Street, from 5PM - 8PM.

The community "PREP" Rally      event will  includ:

  • Free Food and Drinks
  • Free Disaster Kits (while supplies last)
  • Hands Only CPR Training
  • Fire Safety Preparedness Activities
  • Appearances by Local Community Leaders
  • Giveaways
  • Local Community Vendors

Every day, seven people die in home fires, according to The American Red Cross.

One day of your life can change someone else's forever.
