Suspect arrested in death of Stony Point Teacher

The suspect has been identified as Javier Morales-Ramirez. He has been charged with failure to stop and render aid.

Teacher and Coach Sean Kelley was struck and killed by a vehicle in downtown Round Rock Friday night. Choir director Randy Preston said the two had just said goodbye after watching a performance at a piano bar.

"It was just a matter of a few minutes later the sirens went by. Never crossed my mind it could've been him. In my mind he was safely on his way home in an Uber. It wasn't until the following morning when I got the news."

Coworker and friend Amy Dieta said, "I don't know if you ever recover from a loss like that because he's such an asset. He’s such an asset professionally. He’s such an asset personally and made such an impact on all of our lives not just kids but faculty." 

As friends Preston, Dieta and Gary Kendrick recounted Kelley spent nine years on the Stony Point campus coaching just about every sport and teaching special education as well as social studies. He worked for Round Rock ISD for 15 years total. The Iowan first came to central Texas working as a chef for the cast of hope floats.

Kelley had many entertaining stories. One involved Kendrick.

"Because we look so much alike that I'm not sure how it started but I became Sean's dad."

Kendrick made a slideshow with photos of him and Sean's travels together as a way of helping students cope.

As the teachers counsel their kids they too are finding healing in sharing Kelley's legacy.

"He's got the biggest heart I’ve ever, I’ve ever seen… He's just, he’s one of a kind," Dieta said.

A memorial service for Kelley is set for Monday night at 6:30 at the Stony Point football field.
