The suspect in last week's fatal hit and run is now being charged with manslaughter, according to court documents.

The crash happened Wednesday morning at South 1st Street and Ben White Blvd. A witness told police they saw 52-year-old Darrell Smitty's car jump a curb, drive onto a sidewalk and hit 40-year-old Ernesto Garcia-Gonzalez who was walking on the sidewalk. Gonzalez died on the scene.

Capital Metro cameras caught the incident on video and according to court documents, it shows Smitty exit his truck after the crash, walk back to where Garcia-Gonzalez was lying and then walk back to his car and leave the scene.

Police say Smitty had been driving with an expired license. He was booked into the Travis County Jail last week.
