SXSW crash suspect makes court appearance

Rashad Owens made an appearance before the judge Friday morning.

He is charged with two counts of capital murder and 24 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Four people were killed and many others injured when police say Owens plowed into a group of SXSW attendees in March of last year.

Police say Owens was intoxicated at the time.

Judge Cliff Brown told his attorney and the prosecutor to aim for a late fall trial date, possibly November.

Owens' attorney Rickey Jones says he will be prepared.

He then talked about his client's mental state.

"He's a lot more balanced now. He's able to talk to me, communicate with me and assist me in representing him," Jones said in court.
