TCSO searches for homicide suspect following shooting on FM 969
The Travis County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance as they search for a homicide suspect. Deputies are also trying to learn more about what led up to the fatal shooting.
According to TCSO, deputies responded to an assist EMS call in the 9300 block of FM 969 around 8:43 p.m. on Friday, July 20. When deputies arrived on scene, they discovered a Hispanic male with a gunshot wound lying on the ground near his vehicle.
Deputies administered CPR until ATCEMS arrived.
The victim was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 10:13 pm. He has been identified as 32-year-old Juan Carlos Gomez of Mexico.
During their investigation, deputies learned that Gomez had left his home around 8 p.m. to purchase ice at a local convenient store in his white four-door truck. Gomez was reportedly wearing a white t-shirt and grey shorts when he left his residence. A witness told deputies he saw a white passenger vehicle chasing Gomez's truck shortly before he was shot.
Another witness also described seeing a white car speeding away from the area.
