Teen arrested during standoff with APD

"Guy in the sweatshirt walk back toward me slowly." The sound of Austin Police echoed through the Central Austin Motel 6 parking lot on Friday morning.

It's the wake-up call guests there could have never anticipated. Cody Gosnell, who shot video of the arrests, was staying in the room next door when Austin Police surrounded the place.

Motel 6's General Manager says the people in room 151 had been staying there for 3 days.

"We didn't have any complaints regarding them," he says, "that's the first time staying at this property."

It was during their stay, that APD says one of them stole a car from a nearby house. The woman who reported it, said her home had been broken into. The keys to her car, a few handguns and a shotgun were missing.

Court records show that an Austin Police officer saw the stolen car through the Motel 6's chain link fence when he drove by. The officer saw two males get out of the car and knock on room 151.

They saw him watching, and walked back to the car. The officer then drove into the parking lot, and the two males were gone.

Gosnell, court records then show, came out of his room and told Police he saw the two men run and jump the fence, one of them had a gun in his hand. Police caught up with them and took them into custody. A third person was also taken into custody.

One of them, 17-year old Jesus Vasquez Sosa, told Police he was picked up in the car, and was going to drive it to school. He is being charged with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, a State Jail Felony.

Webb Middle School is next door. Students were in class so AISD Police were brought in to assist. A reverse 911 call went out but an ASID spokesperson says no child was ever in danger.
