The Austin Animal Center needs help finding foster homes for medium and large dogs

(Austin Animal Center)

The Austin Animal Center is asking the community for help. They are looking for temporary foster homes for medium to large dogs.

According to the animal center slower summer adoptions and higher than usual intake due to evacuated pets from Hurricane Harvey contributed to the overflowing of shelter animals.

In addition to fostering and making a difference, temporary foster parents will have the chance to adopt a friendly four legged friend if they choose to.

Interested people can come to the shelter and sign up to be temporary foster families from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 17 and 18th,

The shelter will provide dog food and the center can even provide a crate if needed. The animal center is asking that interested families to not bring current pets for a meet and greet but instead bring an I.D.

You also can help keep animals out of the crowded shelter by helping lost pets in your neighborhood.

The Austin Animal Center offers free I.D. tags and microchips to all pet owners in Austin and Travis County to help keep pets safe and out of the animal shelter system.
