Thousands compete in Life Time Tri CapTex

Thousands of athletes are putting on their running shoes and swimming caps to compete in Austin for the Life Time Tri CapTex. This of course also means there are a lot of road closures and detours in place as they make their way through downtown.

A full map and list of closures and alternative routes can be found here.

The CapTex is a Memorial Day tradition and has been going on for 28 years. It's one of eight events around the country that is a part of the Life Time Tri series.

Athletes kicked off the triathlon swimming in Lady Bird Lake which is followed by a bike ride up Congress Avenue to the Capitol and back South Loop along Cesar Chavez.

The competition ends with a run looping through West Riverside, Butler Park, Barton Springs Pool and finishing at Auditorium Shores.

There are three types of courses and all have varying degrees of difficulty.
