Trail of Lights opens to public
AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - It's one of Austin's most celebrated holiday traditions and the Trail of Lights is opening to the public today.
This is the 54th year for the event is one of the largest in the city and of course that means there'll be some traffic issues with street closures in the area.
From now until Dec. 23, all lanes on Barton Springs and Stratford Drive will be closed from 5:30-11 PM.
Parking is prohibited in surrounding neighborhoods so organizers are asking people to be mindful of those living the Zilker Park area and Rollingwood.
Law enforcement will be out enforcing parking.
The Trail of Lights Foundation continues to expand the event each year. There's more than two million lights, more than 65 displays, live entertainment and food.
New displays include lighted guitars and one called twirling Christmas trees.
Free admission days are Monday through Wednesday over the next two weeks. Parking is limited so get passes ahead of time or use an alternative mode of transportation.
