Travis Early College High School put on lockdown after incident
Travis Early College High School was put on a lockdown after an incident with a suspect who led police on a pursuit that ended at a practice field near the school.
Officials say that it all started at 9:44 a.m. when the suspect and another woman were involved in an incident in which the suspect had a handgun.
Officers were called and engaged with the suspect who officials say assaulted an officer and then took off running.
Police began pursuit and caught up with the suspect at a practice field near Travis Early College High School. Officers spoke to the suspect and at some point the suspect shot himself with his handgun.
Officials say the suspect was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.
The officer that was assaulted was also taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay.
School officials say the lockdown is in the process of being lifted with a controlled release of students.
