There could be some traffic headaches for drivers in southwest Austin as construction starts up again in the area at the Slaughter and MoPac intersection.

The project is part of a bigger one that started several months ago. Crews have been out helping alert drivers about the new construction.

Today TxDOT is prepping for the new "diverging diamond" intersection overpass. The multi-million dollar project has been in the works for a while. Once over, it will extend the highway underneath Slaughter to La Crosse Avenue.

Other improvements will include a pedestrian bikeway next to the southbound lanes.

As a result, West Slaughter at MoPac has been shutdown since 5 p.m. on June 10. Both the north and southbound right turn lanes of MoPac have also been closed.

The traffic pattern is expected to last for the next six months. TxDot expects traffic times to increase due to the closures so they're asking people to plan accordingly and give yourself extra time.
