2 injured when crane collapses in South Florida neighborhood
LAUDERHILL, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say at least two people were injured when a crane collapsed in a Florida neighborhood.
Lauderhill Fire Rescue spokeswoman Jerry Gonzalez says a crane was being used to put up Florida Power and Light electric poles Wednesday afternoon when it fell onto two houses. No fatalities were immediately reported, and Gonzalez wasn't sure of the severity of the injuries.
Gonzalez says firefighters were still going through the houses to make sure no one else was inside. The crane smashed through the roof of one of the home, causing extensive damage.
Gonzalez says it wasn't immediately clear what caused the collapse, but adds weather might have been a factor.
Messages seeking comment from the utility weren't immediately returned.
Lauderhill is located northwest of Fort Lauderdale.
