APD SWAT arrests man in southwest Austin stabbing

A man is in custody after Austin police said he stabbed someone and barricaded himself inside his apartment Saturday afternoon.

Monterey Ranh Apartment residents noticed heavy SWAT presence around 1:30 p.m.

APD Officer Jeremy Bohannon said officers responded to a stabbing and a man who barricaded himself inside an apartment armed with a knife.

When officers arrived on scene they learned the suspect was walking around outside.

“Officers were canvasing in the area and then found the suspect shortly thereafter suspect was taken into custody without incident and the victim has been transported to nearby local hospital,” said Bohannon. “I was told that it was a family disturbance and so the suspect and the victim more than likely knew each other.”

Bohannon said the stabbing victim is expected to survive.

Identities of those involved has yet to be released.
