Austin man sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexual assault of children

An Austin man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the sexual assault of children.

Johnny Bueno, 63, pled guilty to continuous sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child by contact charges in a plea agreement with the Travis County District Attorney's Office. He was sentenced on Feb. 4 and under the sentence is not eligible for parole and must serve the 25 years.

According to Austin police investigators, Bueno married a woman with several children in the early 2000s and began sexually abusing his stepchildren when they were as young as five years old until they reached puberty, says a release from the DA's office. The abuse continued with his stepgrandchildren.

The DA's office says the crimes remained a family secret until he abused a child outside of the family starting when the boy was five and continuing until he was eleven. The boy told his mother what happened two years later. Many other victims then spoke up and Bueno was arrested in October 2017.

After sentencing, four victims took the stand to confront Bueno.
