Bexar County Sherriff's Office: Deputy dies after her car falls into sinkhole
The Bexar County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that one of its deputies has died after her car fell into a sinkhole in San Antonio on December 4.
Officials say Deputy Dora Linda (Solis) Nishihara worked as a reserve deputy from August 2009 to October 2016. She had been a part time deputy at the Bexar County Courthouse since October.
In a post on its Facebook page, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office said:
We are heartbroken to confirm Deputy Dora Linda (Solis) Nishihara passed away after her car fell into a sinkhole Sunday. Our thoughts and prayers are with her friends and family. Deputy Nishihara worked as a Reserve Deputy from August 2009 to October 2016 before transitioning to a part-time Deputy at the Bexar County Courthouse in October of this year. We are assisting her family as they deal with this tragedy.
Another vehicle also fell into the water filled sinkhole. Officials say two passers-by rescued a male driver and that driver and one of his rescuers were treated for minor injuries.
The Associated Press says that Robert Puente, president of the San Antonio water system, said the hold appeared after a sewer line ruptured during heavy rain.
