Boil water notice for West Travis County
December 4, 2016— The West Travis County Public Utility Agency (WTCPUA) began an emergency repair on a 16” transmission main break on Sunday, December 4, 2016. Water service was interrupted for several hours. Service has been restored by backfeeding water through another system. The emergency issue was a broken air release valve which will be repaired tomorrow, December 5, 2016. The transmission main delivers water to customers in Hays County within the PUA’s service territory.
Due to the water main break, WTCPUA’s customers experienced a period of low pressure or water outage. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requires the WTCPUA to notify customers within the subject area of the need to boil their water prior to consumption.
The effective date of the boil water notice is December 4, 2016, until canceled by the WTCPUA. The neighborhoods within the WTCPUA service territory impacted by the boil water notice include:
- Village of Bear Creek
- Bear Creek Estate
- Hills of Texas
- Friendship Ranch
- Fox Run
- Reunion Ranch
To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to use. The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil for two minutes. This notice is given as a precaution to ensure destruction of any harmful bacteria that may have become present when water pressure dropped below 20 psi. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable public drinking water source.
As soon as the results from the collected samples are available, WTCPUA representatives will notify you that the water is safe for consumption. Instructions to discontinue boiling will be issued in the same manner as this notice. The PUA will advise as to the status of the repair as more information is available.
Customers who have additional questions should contact customer service at (330) 360-2835.
