Cedar Park Police officers involved in overnight shooting

There has been an officer-involved shooting in Cedar Park Saturday night.

Shortly before midnight on Saturday, Cedar Park Police responded to an on-going call of a "Terroristic Threat" that occurred earlier in the night. The call involved a man threatening suicide and gun violence towards traffic in the Whitestone and Bagdad area. The suspect was 47-year-old John Marcus Perry who is known by Cedar Park Police to frequent the area.

Officers arrived on scene and started to search for Perry. DPS Air Support was requested and acquired the suspect's location in the woods just north of Whitestone Blvd.

When officers made visual contact with Perry they saw that he was carrying a rifle and heading in their direction. As he got closer, officers illuminated him with bright flashlights, at which point the suspect "presented the rifle in a manner determined by the officers to be a threat to their personal safety," police said.

The officers opened fire on Perry, bringing him down. The two officers immediately starting treating Perry's trauma wounds. He was transported by EMS to a regional hospital where he remains under police custody. The suspect is in stable condition.

According to police, no officers or any members of the general public were injured on the shooting.

The incident is currently under an open investigation, and per Cedar Park Police protocol, both officers have been placed on administrative leave.

The investigation is being conducted by the Texas Rangers and anyone with information on this case should contact Lt. Larry Bond at 512-260-4766.
