Deceased Driver of 18-wheeler crash on Hwy 71 identified

Police have identified the driver of an 18-wheeler, who died last Tuesday when his truck flipped as he as trying to get on the westbound toll section of Highway 71 near Highway 130.

According to Austin Police it happened around noon Tuesday on the westbound lanes of SH 71 at Farm to Market 973.

Police said 37-year-old Glenn Christopher Lewis was trying to get on the toll road when his green 2007 freight truck heading westbound drifted.  Police said Lewis over corrected the drift and flipped, pinning him underneath.

According to police the truck rolled several times until coming to a rest on its topside.  Police said the truck was carrying bags of concrete which spilled out onto the grass and roadway causing confusion for those nearby. 

Police said Lewis died on the scene. 

Officials said no one else was injured.

This is Austin’s 30th fatal traffic crash of 2018, resulting in 31 fatalities this year. At this time in 2017, there were 30 fatal traffic crashes and 32 traffic fatalities.
